Pilots

The SMART project will have pilots in real farms in Brazil and China, which is already granted by previous cooperation among project partners and the farmers. All The project’s technological deliverables (concepts, devices, algorithms, models, software/platforms) will be tested in at least one pilot

Brazilian Pilot

The Brazilian primary pilot will be a plot of irrigated coffee by drip irrigation on the Nossa Senhora Aparecida da Água Branca farm, located in the rural area of Brotas, São Paulo state, which has a total area of 67 hectares of the Catuaí variety. The farm, located 68 kilometers from São Carlos (Embrapa Instrumentation’s location), already participates in collaborative R&D activities with the SMART partner Pitaya. In addition, a secondary pilot for preliminary experiments will be Embrapa’s LANAPRE (National Laboratory for Precision Agriculture) farm.

Chinese Pilot

The Chinese primary pilot is a cotton farm located at the Naomaohu Town in Yiwu County in the Xinjiang region) and the pilot will cover an area of approximately 8,000 hectares. The farm needs an intelligent and precise application platform for irrigation,
fertilization, and pest control to drive the modernization and sustainable development of agriculture, achieving cost reduction and efficiency increase, water saving, and production increase in cotton plantation in the Xinjiang region. The pilot will be operated
by SMART partner GAIA (Guizhou Aerospace Smart Agriculture, which keeps an ongoing collaboration with the farm. A secondary pilot will be a vegetable farm located in the Guizhou Province.
